Abstract

School burnout has emerged as a significant psychological and educational concern among adolescent students due to increasing academic demands, examination pressure, competitive learning environments, and psychosocial challenges. Characterized by emotional exhaustion, cynicism toward school, and a diminished sense of academic efficacy, school burnout adversely affects students' mental health, academic performance, motivation, and overall well-being. Growing evidence suggests that yoga, as a holistic mind-body practice integrating physical postures, breathing techniques, relaxation, and meditation, offers a promising non-pharmacological approach to enhancing psychological resilience and reducing stress-related symptoms among adolescents. This paper reviews the existing empirical literature on yoga-based interventions and their effectiveness in addressing school burnout among adolescent students. Drawing upon peer-reviewed studies, systematic reviews, and randomized controlled trials, the review synthesizes current evidence regarding the influence of yoga on stress reduction, emotional regulation, mindfulness, anxiety, attention, self-esteem, and school engagement. The findings consistently indicate that regular participation in structured yoga programs can improve emotional well-being, strengthen adaptive coping strategies, enhance self-regulation, and foster positive academic attitudes, thereby reducing factors associated with school burnout. However, the review also identifies important research gaps, including the limited number of studies directly assessing school burnout as a primary outcome, variations in intervention duration and methodology, and insufficient long-term follow-up assessments. The paper concludes that integrating evidence-based yoga programs into school health and wellness initiatives may serve as an effective preventive strategy for promoting adolescent mental health and creating supportive educational environments. Future research should employ standardized burnout measures, larger and more diverse samples, and longitudinal research designs to establish stronger causal evidence regarding the effectiveness of yoga-based interventions in reducing school burnout.
